Dragon's Quill is a platform for serialized fiction. Stories may include mature themes, emotional intensity, romance, violence, difficult subject matter, and complex characters.
This Mature Content and Monetization Eligibility Policy explains what kinds of mature content may be allowed on Dragon's Quill, what content may be restricted, and what content is not eligible for monetization.
This policy is especially important because Dragon's Quill uses third-party payment processors. Some content may be allowed to exist on Dragon's Quill but may not be eligible for paid Early Access, subscriptions, author earnings, or other monetized features.
By publishing, reading, purchasing, subscribing to, reporting, or monetizing content on Dragon's Quill, you agree to follow this policy.
1. Relationship to Other Dragon's Quill Policies
This policy is part of the Dragon's Quill Terms of Service.
It applies together with:
- the Terms of Service;
- the Author Monetization Terms;
- the Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms;
- the Refund Policy;
- the Payout Policy;
- the Paid Chapter Deletion / Unpublishing Policy;
- the Community Guidelines or Content Rules, if separately posted;
- payment processor rules;
- author onboarding notices;
- story and chapter publishing notices;
- checkout and paywall disclosures.
If this policy conflicts with the general Terms of Service on mature-content or monetization-eligibility issues, this policy controls for those issues.
If a payment processor rule, legal requirement, or more specific Dragon's Quill policy requires stricter handling, Dragon's Quill may apply the stricter rule.
2. Core Principle
Dragon's Quill distinguishes between three categories:
- Allowed Content
Content that may be allowed on Dragon's Quill, subject to tags, warnings, moderation, age-appropriate handling, and platform rules. - Allowed but Not Monetizable Content
Content that may be allowed to remain on Dragon's Quill but may not be eligible for paid Early Access, Story Subscriptions, bundles, Binge Packages, author earnings, or other monetized features. - Not Allowed Content
Content that is prohibited on Dragon's Quill and may be removed, restricted, or escalated.
Important rule:
Some content may be allowed on Dragon's Quill but not eligible for monetization.
Dragon's Quill may disable monetization for a story, chapter, author, or account even if the content is not fully removed from the platform.
3. Why Monetization Rules Are Stricter Than General Content Rules
Dragon's Quill may apply stricter rules to monetized content because paid content creates additional legal, financial, payment-processing, safety, consumer-protection, and platform-trust risks.
Monetized content may be restricted because of:
- payment processor rules;
- card network rules;
- banking partner restrictions;
- legal compliance;
- tax or regional restrictions;
- reader safety;
- platform reputation;
- content moderation risk;
- refund and chargeback risk;
- author payout risk;
- Dragon's Quill's own platform standards.
Dragon's Quill may allow a mature story to remain readable while disabling paid Early Access, subscriptions, or other monetized features for that story.
Dragon's Quill may also restrict monetization preemptively if it believes content may create payment processor or platform risk.
4. Allowed Mature Content
The following types of mature content may generally be allowed on Dragon's Quill, subject to context, severity, tags, warnings, and other policies.
Allowed content may still require appropriate labeling or may still be ineligible for monetization depending on how it is written.
4.1 Profanity
Stories may include profanity, crude language, insults, and strong language.
Dragon's Quill may restrict content if profanity is used for targeted harassment, hate, threats, abuse, or other prohibited conduct.
4.2 Violence Within Policy
Stories may include violence, combat, injury, death, horror, war, monsters, crime, battle scenes, and other violent fictional material.
Dragon's Quill may restrict content if violence becomes excessively graphic, exploitative, instructional, celebratory of real-world harm, targeted toward protected groups, or otherwise violates platform rules.
4.3 Romance
Stories may include romance, dating, emotional intimacy, romantic tension, kissing, affection, relationships, marriage, heartbreak, jealousy, longing, and romantic conflict.
Romance is not prohibited merely because it involves mature emotions or complicated relationships.
4.4 References to Sexuality or Sex
Stories may include non-explicit references to sex, sexuality, sexual attraction, sexual history, pregnancy, reproduction, contraception, or related topics.
Such references should not become explicit erotic or pornographic content.
4.5 Innuendo
Stories may include innuendo, suggestive humor, flirtation, double meanings, romantic teasing, or implied attraction.
Innuendo must not be used to evade restrictions on explicit erotic, pornographic, exploitative, or prohibited sexual content.
4.6 Fade-to-Black Intimacy
Stories may include implied sexual intimacy where the scene fades to black, cuts away, or avoids explicit sexual description.
Fade-to-black intimacy is generally allowed if it is not written as explicit erotic or pornographic content and does not involve prohibited sexual material.
4.7 Mature Themes
Stories may include mature themes such as grief, trauma, war, addiction, abuse recovery, discrimination, family conflict, moral ambiguity, mental health struggles, political conflict, spiritual conflict, crime, betrayal, death, illness, or survival.
Authors should use appropriate content warnings where needed.
Mature themes must not be handled in a way that violates Dragon's Quill's safety, harassment, hate, exploitation, or illegal-content rules.
4.8 LGBTQ+ Characters and Themes
Stories may include LGBTQ+ characters, relationships, identities, themes, communities, romance, families, conflicts, and life experiences.
LGBTQ+ representation is allowed.
LGBTQ+ content is not prohibited merely because it involves LGBTQ+ characters, themes, relationships, or identity.
The same content rules apply regardless of the gender, sexuality, or identity of the characters.
Dragon's Quill will not treat LGBTQ+ identity or non-explicit LGBTQ+ representation as adult content by itself.
4.9 Non-Explicit Discussion of Sexual Violence or Abuse
Stories may include non-graphic references to past sexual violence, coercion, abuse, exploitation, trafficking, or trauma where handled seriously and not for sexual gratification.
Such content may require warnings and may be restricted or denied monetization depending on context.
Graphic, eroticized, exploitative, or titillating treatment of sexual violence or abuse is prohibited or ineligible for monetization under this policy.
4.10 Historical, Cultural, Political, or Social Themes
Stories may include difficult historical, cultural, political, social, or moral themes, including prejudice, oppression, injustice, war, crime, and social conflict.
However, Dragon's Quill may restrict content that promotes hate, harassment, real-world violence, exploitation, illegal activity, or abuse.
5. Content Warnings, Tags, and Reader Notice
Authors are responsible for using accurate tags, genres, descriptions, maturity labels, and content warnings where appropriate.
Dragon's Quill may require warnings for content involving:
- strong violence;
- gore;
- abuse;
- trauma;
- sexual references;
- fade-to-black intimacy;
- self-harm themes;
- addiction;
- death;
- discrimination;
- horror;
- other mature themes.
Authors must not hide mature or sensitive content from readers by omitting warnings, misusing tags, disguising content, or placing critical information only in hidden blocks, hover notes, images, or author notes.
Dragon's Quill may add, change, require, or remove tags, labels, warnings, age gates, monetization eligibility labels, or other disclosures.
Failure to use appropriate warnings may result in content restriction, monetization restriction, refund review, payout hold, or other enforcement action.
6. Content That May Be Allowed but Not Monetizable
Some content may be permitted to remain on Dragon's Quill but may not be eligible for monetization.
Dragon's Quill may disable monetization while allowing the content to remain free, restricted, age-gated, delisted, or otherwise available under platform rules.
Content may be allowed but not monetizable if Dragon's Quill determines that it creates elevated payment, legal, reader-trust, safety, or platform risk.
Examples may include:
- unusually graphic violence;
- repeated sexual references that approach explicit erotic content;
- mature content with insufficient warnings;
- non-explicit but highly sensitive sexual trauma themes;
- borderline adult content;
- content likely to violate payment processor expectations;
- content that may cause high refund or dispute risk;
- content under copyright, plagiarism, or ownership review;
- content under moderation review;
- content involving themes that require additional legal or processor review.
- Dragon's Quill may make monetization decisions case by case.
A story being allowed on Dragon's Quill does not mean it is eligible for paid Early Access, Story Subscriptions, bundles, Binge Packages, or author payouts.
7. Content Not Allowed for Monetization
The following content is not eligible for monetization on Dragon's Quill.
Dragon's Quill may disable paid access, prevent author earnings, hold payouts, remove paid features, issue refunds, or take other action if monetized content includes or promotes these categories.
7.1 Content That Violates Payment Processor Rules
Content that violates Stripe, card network, banking partner, payment processor, tax, legal, or compliance rules is not eligible for monetization.
Dragon's Quill may interpret and apply payment processor rules conservatively to protect the platform.
7.2 Explicit Erotic or Pornographic Content
Explicit erotic or pornographic content is not eligible for monetization.
This includes sexual content written primarily to arouse, titillate, or provide sexual gratification.
7.3 Sex Scenes Written for Sexual Gratification
Scenes written primarily for sexual gratification, even if presented as fiction, romance, fantasy, literary content, or bonus content, are not eligible for monetization.
Dragon's Quill may consider:
- level of explicit detail;
- focus on sexual acts;
- purpose of the scene;
- marketing or tagging;
- repetition;
- framing;
- reader-facing presentation;
- whether payment is tied to sexual content.
7.4 Adult Services
Adult services are not eligible for monetization and are not allowed as a commercial use of Dragon's Quill.
This includes:
- prostitution;
- escort services;
- sexual services;
- adult live chat;
- sexual messaging services;
- pay-per-view sexual content;
- paid sexual roleplay services;
- sexual massage services;
- solicitation of sexual services;
- links or promotions for adult services.
7.5 Fetish Content
Fetish content is not eligible for monetization.
This includes content marketed, written, structured, or presented primarily around fetish gratification, even if not visually explicit.
Dragon's Quill may restrict or remove fetish content depending on context and platform risk.
7.6 Explicit Sexual Imagery
Explicit sexual imagery is not eligible for monetization.
Dragon's Quill may also remove or restrict explicit sexual imagery from the platform.
This includes explicit sexual images, illustrations, covers, avatars, embedded media, links, or promotional materials.
7.7 Sexual Exploitation
Content involving sexual exploitation is not eligible for monetization and may be prohibited entirely.
This includes content that eroticizes, promotes, instructs, celebrates, or commercially benefits from exploitation, abuse, coercion, trafficking, grooming, manipulation, or predatory sexual conduct.
7.8 Coercive or Non-Consensual Sexual Content
Sexual content involving coercion, non-consent, assault, forced sexual activity, incapacitation, threats, manipulation, blackmail, or inability to consent is not eligible for monetization.
Graphic, eroticized, celebratory, or titillating depictions of non-consensual sexual content are prohibited.
Non-graphic references to past trauma may be allowed where handled seriously and not for sexual gratification, but may still be restricted or ineligible for monetization depending on context.
7.9 Incest Sexual Content
Sexual content involving incest is not eligible for monetization.
Dragon's Quill may restrict or remove incest sexual content depending on context.
7.10 Sexual Content Involving Minors
Sexual content involving minors is prohibited.
This includes written, illustrated, implied, fictional, fantasy, "aged up," "looks young," school-age, underage-coded, or otherwise minor-involved sexual content.
Authors may not sexualize minors or minor-coded characters.
Dragon's Quill may remove such content, restrict accounts, preserve evidence, report where required or appropriate, disable monetization, hold payouts, and take enforcement action.
7.11 Sexual Content Involving Age Ambiguity
Sexual content involving characters whose age is ambiguous, unclear, minimized, or plausibly underage may be restricted, removed, or denied monetization.
Authors are responsible for avoiding ambiguity where sexual content or mature romantic content could create underage concerns.
7.12 Links to Prohibited Adult Content
Dragon's Quill may restrict or remove links, advertisements, references, or calls to action directing readers to prohibited adult content, adult services, sexually explicit paid platforms, or payment-processor-prohibited material.
Authors may not use Dragon's Quill to route readers toward adult services or prohibited paid adult content.
8. Content Not Allowed at All
The following content is prohibited on Dragon's Quill and may be removed, restricted, escalated, or reported where appropriate.
8.1 Sexual Content Involving Minors
Sexual content involving minors is prohibited in all forms.
This includes explicit, implied, illustrated, fictional, fantasy, roleplay, "aged up," "minor-coded," or otherwise sexualized minor content.
8.2 Sexual Exploitation or Abuse
Content that promotes, eroticizes, instructs, celebrates, solicits, or facilitates sexual exploitation, trafficking, grooming, coercion, abuse, or predatory sexual conduct is prohibited.
8.3 Adult Services
Dragon's Quill may not be used to offer, promote, solicit, arrange, or facilitate adult services.
8.4 Explicit Pornographic Content
Dragon's Quill does not allow explicit pornographic content designed primarily for sexual gratification.
8.5 Non-Consensual Intimate Content
Dragon's Quill does not allow non-consensual intimate images, threats to share intimate material, sexual blackmail, or other sexual privacy violations.
8.6 Illegal Sexual Content
Dragon's Quill does not allow illegal sexual content or content that facilitates illegal sexual activity.
8.7 Evasion and Hidden Prohibited Content
Users may not hide prohibited sexual or mature content in:
- images;
- covers;
- avatars;
- metadata;
- tags;
- hover notes;
- hidden blocks;
- links;
- author notes;
- coded language;
- off-platform redirects;
- files;
- formatting tricks.
- Dragon's Quill may treat evasion as an aggravating violation.
9. Violence and Graphic Content
Dragon's Quill may allow fictional violence, battle scenes, horror, crime, and dark fantasy.
However, monetization may be restricted or denied for content that is excessively graphic, exploitative, sadistic, instructive, or likely to create payment processor, legal, reader-trust, or platform risk.
Dragon's Quill may restrict content that:
- celebrates real-world violence;
- instructs readers how to commit violence;
- targets protected groups;
- depicts torture or gore in an exploitative way;
- combines sexual content with violence in prohibited ways;
- presents abuse as eroticized or desirable;
- creates unusual safety or payment risk.
Context matters, but Dragon's Quill may act conservatively when monetized content is involved.
10. Hate, Harassment, and Dehumanization
Dragon's Quill may allow fictional conflict, prejudice, villains, historical injustice, and difficult social themes.
However, content may be restricted, removed, or denied monetization if it promotes hate, dehumanization, harassment, threats, real-world violence, or abuse against people or groups based on protected characteristics.
Authors are responsible for distinguishing between depicting harmful beliefs in fiction and using fiction as a vehicle to promote real-world hate or harassment.
Dragon's Quill may restrict monetization or remove content if it believes the content creates safety, legal, reader-trust, or platform risk.
11. Self-Harm, Suicide, and Eating Disorder Content
Dragon's Quill may allow serious, non-instructional treatment of self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, addiction, and mental health themes.
However, content may be restricted, removed, or denied monetization if it:
- encourages self-harm or suicide;
- provides instructions for self-harm;
- romanticizes or glorifies self-harm;
- promotes eating disorders;
- targets vulnerable readers;
- uses self-harm themes in an exploitative or sensationalized way.
- Authors should use appropriate content warnings.
Dragon's Quill may provide resources, restrict content, or take safety action where appropriate.
12. Illegal Activity
Dragon's Quill may allow fictional depictions of crime, corruption, criminals, war, espionage, and morally gray characters.
However, content may be restricted, removed, or denied monetization if it:
- instructs readers how to commit crimes;
- facilitates illegal activity;
- sells or promotes illegal goods or services;
- encourages real-world harm;
- provides operational guidance for wrongdoing;
- violates payment processor or legal requirements.
13. Mature Content in Covers, Profiles, Images, and Metadata
This policy applies not only to chapter body text but also to:
- covers;
- profile images;
- banners;
- blurbs;
- author notes;
- tags;
- titles;
- usernames;
- comments;
- reviews;
- messages;
- hover notes;
- hidden blocks;
- system messages;
- external links;
- promotional copy;
- any other content submitted to Dragon's Quill.
Content that would be prohibited or ineligible for monetization in a chapter may also be prohibited or ineligible in a cover, profile, title, tag, link, or promotional description.
Authors may not use covers, tags, blurbs, or marketing text to signal prohibited adult content while keeping the chapter body less explicit.
14. Monetization Review
Dragon's Quill may review content for monetization eligibility before or after monetization is enabled.
Review may be automatic, manual, user-reported, payment-processor-triggered, support-triggered, or moderation-triggered.
Dragon's Quill may review:
- story metadata;
- chapter content;
- covers;
- tags;
- content warnings;
- author notes;
- reader reports;
- refund patterns;
- chargeback patterns;
- external links;
- promotional claims;
- account history;
- payment processor requirements.
- Dragon's Quill may disable monetization while review is pending.
Approval or lack of enforcement at one time does not guarantee future approval.
Dragon's Quill may re-review content if policies, laws, payment processor rules, author behavior, story content, or platform risk changes.
15. Enforcement Actions
If Dragon's Quill determines that content violates this policy or is ineligible for monetization, Dragon's Quill may take action, including:

- reporting to payment processors or authorities where appropriate.
Dragon's Quill may act before completing a full review if immediate action is needed to protect readers, minors, authors, the platform, payment systems, or legal compliance.
16. Payout Consequences
If monetized content violates this policy, Dragon's Quill may hold, reduce, reverse, or deny author earnings.
Payout consequences may include:
- pending earnings held during review;
- earnings reversed for refunded transactions;
- negative ledger balances;
- future earnings offset against refunds or chargebacks;
- payout delays;
- payout reserves;
- monetization disablement;
- repayment requests;
- author account restrictions.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that paid content remains eligible for monetization.
Payment already received by Dragon's Quill or displayed in an author dashboard does not guarantee that funds are payable to the author.
17. Refund Consequences
If paid content violates this policy, Dragon's Quill may issue full or partial refunds under the Refund Policy.
Refunds may be considered if:
- content was misrepresented;
- content lacked required warnings;
- content was removed shortly after purchase;
- content violated monetization eligibility rules;
- content violated payment processor rules;
- content created reader-trust or safety concerns;
- Dragon's Quill determines a refund is appropriate.
- Refunds may reduce or reverse author earnings.
- Content removal is not automatically refundable in every case.

By publishing or monetizing content, authors represent that:
- they have reviewed this policy;
- their content is accurately tagged and described;

- they will cooperate with Dragon's Quill reviews and enforcement.
Authors may not claim ignorance of this policy as a defense to enforcement.
19. Reader Reports
Readers may report content they believe violates this policy.
Reports should be submitted in good faith and should identify the content and concern clearly.
Dragon's Quill may review reports and decide whether action is needed.
Submitting a report does not guarantee that Dragon's Quill will remove content, restrict monetization, issue a refund, or take account action.
Users may not abuse reports to harass authors, suppress lawful content, attack competitors, or manipulate monetization.
20. Appeals
Dragon's Quill may allow authors to appeal some content or monetization decisions.
Appeals should explain why the author believes the decision was mistaken and should identify the relevant story, chapter, or account.
Dragon's Quill may uphold, modify, or reverse a decision.
Dragon's Quill is not required to offer appeals for all decisions, including decisions required by law, payment processor rules, serious safety concerns, sexual content involving minors, fraud, or legal compliance.
Appeal does not guarantee restoration of monetization, content, payouts, subscriptions, or access.

Changes may be required because of:
- payment processor rules;
- card network rules;
- banking partner requirements;
