These Author Monetization Terms govern your use of Dragon's Quill's monetization features, including Early Access chapters, one-time chapter unlocks, chapter bundles, Binge Packages, Story Subscriptions, author earnings, payout eligibility, payout holds, refunds, chargebacks, and related monetization tools.
These Author Monetization Terms are part of the Dragon's Quill Terms of Service. By enabling monetization, applying for monetization, offering paid content, accepting payments through Dragon's Quill, connecting a payout account, or receiving author earnings, you agree to these Author Monetization Terms.
If you do not agree to these Author Monetization Terms, do not enable monetization or offer paid content on Dragon's Quill.
1. Relationship to Other Dragon's Quill Terms
These Author Monetization Terms supplement and are incorporated into the Dragon's Quill Terms of Service.
You must also comply with:
- the Terms of Service;
- the Privacy Policy;
- the Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms;
- the Refund Policy;
- the Payout Policy;
- the Mature Content and Monetization Eligibility Policy;
- the Paid Chapter Deletion / Unpublishing Policy;
- the Community Guidelines or Content Rules, if separately posted;
- checkout, author onboarding, payout, tax, support, and policy notices shown in the product.
If these Author Monetization Terms conflict with the general Terms of Service on a monetization-specific issue, these Author Monetization Terms control for that issue.
If a more specific Dragon's Quill monetization policy conflicts with these Author Monetization Terms on a narrow subject, the more specific policy controls for that subject unless it says otherwise.

3. Overview of Dragon's Quill Monetization
Dragon's Quill's primary monetization model is Early Access.
Authors may make eligible chapters available to paying readers before those chapters become free or broadly available.
Dragon's Quill may support some or all of the following monetization products:
- Individual Chapter Unlocks;
- Next-5 Bundles;
- Binge Packages;
- Story Subscriptions;
- other monetization products Dragon's Quill may add later.
Dragon's Quill does not use coins, credits, tokens, wallet balances, or site-wide stored currency unless a later written policy says otherwise.
Readers pay real currency through supported payment methods.
Dragon's Quill controls the platform checkout experience, access grants, subscription state, refund handling, support records, author ledger records, and payout eligibility.
Authors receive eligible earnings through Dragon's Quill's author ledger and payout process, subject to these Author Monetization Terms and the Payout Policy.
4. Early Access Is Not Permanent Exclusivity
Early Access means readers may pay to read Advance Chapters before those chapters become free or broadly available.
Unless Dragon's Quill expressly states otherwise, readers are paying for early access, not permanent exclusivity.
A chapter becoming free later according to its release schedule is not, by itself, a refund event.
Authors must not describe Early Access in a way that misleads readers into believing that paid chapters will remain permanently exclusive, permanently locked, permanently unavailable to free readers, or permanently controlled by the author outside Dragon's Quill's access rules.
5. Eligibility to Monetize
Dragon's Quill may allow an author to monetize only if the author satisfies Dragon's Quill's eligibility requirements.
To enable monetization, you must:
- have a Dragon's Quill account in good standing;
- be signed in through a valid account;
- have a verified email address;
- be at least 18 years old;
- accept the current Terms of Service;
- accept these Author Monetization Terms;
- accept all applicable monetization policies;
- complete any required Stripe, payment, payout, tax, or identity onboarding;
- provide accurate tax, payout, identity, and account information when required;
- have no active monetization restriction;
- have no unresolved fraud, abuse, payment, or serious moderation issues;
- comply with content eligibility requirements;
- configure story monetization settings correctly;
- maintain your stories and chapters in compliance with Dragon's Quill's policies.
Dragon's Quill may require manual review before approving, activating, restoring, or continuing author monetization.
Dragon's Quill may deny monetization for any author, story, chapter, or account at its discretion if Dragon's Quill believes monetization creates legal, safety, payment, tax, fraud, reader-trust, content, compliance, or platform risk.
6. Age Requirement
You must be at least 18 years old to enable author monetization, receive Author Earnings, connect a payout account, or accept these Author Monetization Terms.
Dragon's Quill does not allow minors to receive payouts or directly participate in author monetization in the MVP.
If Dragon's Quill later supports parent/guardian-managed monetization, that arrangement will require separate written terms and verification.
By enabling monetization, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into these Author Monetization Terms.
Dragon's Quill may request age or identity verification at any time.
If Dragon's Quill determines or suspects that you do not meet the age requirement, Dragon's Quill may deny, pause, restrict, or terminate monetization and may hold or reverse earnings as permitted by policy and law.
7. Stripe and Payment Onboarding
Dragon's Quill uses Stripe or another payment processor to process reader payments, manage connected author payout accounts, verify author eligibility, support tax/KYC requirements, and make payouts.
To receive payouts, you may be required to create, connect, or maintain a Stripe Connected Account or other approved payout account.
You agree to:
- provide accurate and complete onboarding information;
- keep payout, tax, identity, and bank information current;
- complete all required verification steps;
- respond promptly to requests for additional information;
- comply with Stripe's terms, policies, restrictions, and verification requirements;
- comply with applicable tax, banking, identity, anti-fraud, anti-money-laundering, sanctions, and payment laws;
- authorize Dragon's Quill and its payment processors to process transactions and payouts related to your monetized content.
Dragon's Quill may prevent you from enabling monetization, receiving payouts, or continuing monetization if:
- onboarding is incomplete;
- verification fails;
- required information is missing or outdated;
- Stripe or another payment processor restricts your account;
- your payout account is disabled, rejected, limited, or suspended;
- your country, region, identity, business type, content type, or payment activity is not supported;
Dragon's Quill determines that paying you would create legal, tax, payment, fraud, safety, or platform risk.
Dragon's Quill is not responsible for Stripe's decisions, verification requirements, account holds, payout delays, rejected accounts, unavailable countries, unsupported payment methods, processing errors, or changes to Stripe's rules, except where required by law.
8. Monetization States
Dragon's Quill may classify author monetization status using states such as:
- Not Started;
- Terms Required;
- Onboarding Required;
- Pending Review;
- Active;
- Restricted;
- Paused;
- Disabled;
- Terminated.
These labels are for Dragon's Quill's internal and product use and do not create any guarantee of approval, continued access, payout, visibility, or earnings.
Dragon's Quill may change your monetization status at any time if required by policy, law, payment processor rules, fraud prevention, moderation, support, technical requirements, or platform risk management.
9. Story Monetization Eligibility
A story may be eligible for monetization only if Dragon's Quill determines that it meets applicable requirements.
A monetized story must generally:
- be owned or controlled by an author eligible to monetize;
- be public or otherwise purchasable through Dragon's Quill;
- not be removed, banned, restricted, or disabled;
- comply with the Terms of Service;
- comply with content and monetization eligibility rules;
- have valid monetization settings;
- use approved price tiers;
- provide accurate story metadata, tags, descriptions, warnings, and disclosures;
- have at least one eligible Advance Chapter or an approved active Early Access schedule;
- comply with payment processor requirements.
Dragon's Quill may deny, pause, restrict, demonetize, or disable monetization for a story at any time.
10. Chapter Monetization Eligibility
A chapter may be monetized only if it satisfies Dragon's Quill's requirements.
A monetized chapter must generally:
- be part of a monetization-eligible story;
- be published or scheduled in a way that makes it eligible for Early Access;
- be marked correctly as free or Early Access;
- use an approved price tier if individually priced;
- satisfy Dragon's Quill's paid word-count rules or short-chapter exception rules;
- have any required short-chapter disclosure;
- have a valid free-release date or free-release setting if required;
- not be removed, restricted, disabled, or under unresolved moderation action;
- not contain content prohibited from monetization;
- not mislead readers about what is being purchased.
Dragon's Quill may deny monetization for any chapter that is too short, misleadingly formatted, improperly disclosed, policy-violating, risky for payment processing, or otherwise unsuitable for paid access.
11. Word-Count and Short-Chapter Rules
Dragon's Quill may require paid chapters to meet minimum word-count rules.
Unless Dragon's Quill later changes the rules, the MVP monetization rules are:
- 1,500 or more paid story words: normally eligible for paid Early Access;
- 750-1,499 paid story words: may be monetized only with an approved short-chapter exception and reader-facing disclosure;
- under 750 paid story words: not monetizable in the MVP unless Dragon's Quill grants an explicit exception.
Paid story words generally exclude opening author notes, closing author notes, metadata, titles, and tags.
Paid story words generally include chapter body text, headings inside the chapter, lists, blockquotes, system messages, hidden story-content blocks, and tables that contain story content.
Dragon's Quill may adjust word-count calculations, eligibility thresholds, counting methods, and exception rules.
Authors may not pad, split, manipulate, or format chapters in a way designed to evade word-count rules, mislead readers, or make paid content appear more substantial than it is.
Dragon's Quill may deny monetization, require disclosure, issue warnings, refund readers, reverse earnings, restrict accounts, or disable monetization if Dragon's Quill believes an author is abusing word-count rules.
12. Approved Price Tiers
Authors may choose only from Dragon's Quill-approved price tiers.
Dragon's Quill may set, modify, add, remove, or restrict approved price tiers for:
- individual chapter unlocks;
- bundles;
- Binge Packages;
- Story Subscriptions;
- future monetization products.
- Authors may not create arbitrary prices unless Dragon's Quill expressly allows it.
- Changing a price does not retroactively change completed purchases.
Dragon's Quill may store purchase price snapshots, chapter price snapshots, transaction records, and ledger records for accounting, support, refund, tax, and dispute purposes.
Dragon's Quill may restrict or deny certain purchase options based on minimum checkout amounts, payment processing economics, reader trust, or platform policy.
13. Dragon's Quill Platform Fee
Unless Dragon's Quill states otherwise in an updated policy, Dragon's Quill charges a 5% platform fee on applicable monetized transactions.
The platform fee may apply to:
- individual chapter unlocks;
- Next-5 Bundles;
- Binge Packages;
- Story Subscriptions;
- other monetization products Dragon's Quill may add later.
Dragon's Quill's platform fee compensates Dragon's Quill for providing and maintaining platform services, including:
- hosting and displaying content;
- account systems;
- reader access control;
- paywall systems;
- checkout integration;
- purchase and subscription records;
- author ledger systems;
- payment processor integration;
- author monetization tools;
- support tools;
- moderation tools;
- fraud prevention;
- platform development and maintenance.
Authors must not state that they "keep 95%" of reader payments without clearly acknowledging that payment processing fees, taxes, refunds, chargebacks, payout fees, currency conversion, reserves, and other adjustments are separate.
The more accurate statement is:
Dragon's Quill takes a 5% platform fee. Payment processing, refunds, chargebacks, payout fees, taxes, currency conversion, and other adjustments may reduce final author payouts.
14. Payment Processing Fees and Other Adjustments
Payment processing fees are separate from Dragon's Quill's platform fee.
Depending on the transaction, author earnings may be affected by:
- payment processing fees;
- card network fees;
- payment method fees;
- Stripe or payment processor fees;
- Connect or connected-account fees;
- payout fees;
- currency conversion;
- taxes;
- tax calculation or remittance costs;
- refunds;
- partial refunds;
- chargebacks;
- dispute fees;
- fraud losses;
- account reserves;
- negative balances;
- platform adjustments;
- manual corrections;
- legal or compliance holds.
- Dragon's Quill may show estimated earnings before all final adjustments are known.
- Estimated earnings are not guaranteed final payout amounts.
Dragon's Quill may correct ledger entries, estimated earnings, fee calculations, payout amounts, and transaction records if Dragon's Quill identifies an error, refund, chargeback, payment processor update, tax change, accounting issue, or policy issue.
15. Taxes
Authors are responsible for understanding and satisfying their own tax obligations.
Dragon's Quill may collect, calculate, withhold, report, or remit taxes where required or where Dragon's Quill determines it is appropriate.
Taxes collected from readers are not author earnings and are not Dragon's Quill platform-fee revenue.
Dragon's Quill may require authors to provide tax information, identity information, legal name, address, taxpayer identification information, business information, or other information required by Stripe, tax authorities, payment processors, or applicable law.
Dragon's Quill may withhold, delay, or deny payouts if required tax information is missing, incomplete, inaccurate, expired, or rejected.
Dragon's Quill does not provide tax advice.
Authors should consult their own tax professional if they have questions about income taxes, sales tax, digital content taxes, VAT, GST, 1099 forms, business expenses, or similar obligations.
16. Author Earnings Ledger
Dragon's Quill may maintain an internal ledger for author monetization activity.
The ledger may include:
- gross transaction amounts;
- platform fees;
- estimated processing fees;
- taxes;
- author earnings estimates;
- refunds;
- partial refunds;
- chargebacks;
- disputes;
- payout holds;
- payout status;
- negative balances;
- manual adjustments;
- reserve amounts;
- currency information;
- payment processor identifiers;
- transaction timestamps.
Ledger information may be delayed, estimated, incomplete, pending processor updates, or subject to correction.
Dragon's Quill may rely on payment processor data, internal records, checkout data, access-control records, refund records, dispute records, subscription records, and support records to determine ledger entries.
The ledger is Dragon's Quill's operational record. It does not create a guarantee that every displayed amount is immediately payable.
17. Payout Eligibility
An author is eligible for payout only if all applicable requirements are satisfied.
Payout eligibility generally requires:
- active monetization status;
- accepted current Author Monetization Terms;
- accepted current Payout Policy;
- completed Stripe or payment processor onboarding;
- valid payout account;
- completed tax/KYC requirements;
- no active payout hold;
- no unresolved fraud, abuse, or payment investigation;
- no unresolved serious moderation issue affecting monetization;
- no unresolved chargeback/dispute reserve requirement;
- no negative ledger balance;
- minimum payout threshold met;
- compliance with all Dragon's Quill policies.
Dragon's Quill may deny or delay payouts if Dragon's Quill believes payout would create legal, tax, fraud, payment, moderation, safety, reader-trust, or platform risk.
18. Payout Schedule
Unless the Payout Policy states otherwise, Dragon's Quill's MVP payout schedule is monthly with a delay.
Dragon's Quill may use a payout delay to allow time for:
- payment settlement;
- fraud checks;
- refunds;
- chargebacks;
- subscription updates;
- moderation review;
- payment processor reporting;
- tax or compliance review;
- ledger corrections.
Example structure:
Earnings from one calendar month may become eligible for payout after a delay, such as around the 15th day of the following month.
Dragon's Quill may delay payout longer where needed.
This example is not a guaranteed payout date.
Dragon's Quill does not promise instant payouts.
Actual payout timing may depend on payment processor availability, bank processing, account verification, payout holds, region, currency, tax status, weekends, holidays, risk review, and technical issues.
19. Minimum Payout Threshold
Unless the Payout Policy states otherwise, Dragon's Quill's MVP minimum payout threshold is $25.
If your eligible balance is below the minimum payout threshold, the balance will carry forward until the threshold is met or until Dragon's Quill handles the balance according to applicable policy.
Dragon's Quill may change the minimum payout threshold in the future.
Dragon's Quill may set different payout thresholds by country, currency, payment method, processor, or account type if needed.
20. Payout Holds
Dragon's Quill may place a temporary or indefinite hold on some or all author earnings.
Payout holds may apply where Dragon's Quill believes there is or may be:
- refund risk;
- chargeback risk;
- fraud;
- suspicious purchase activity;
- artificial purchases or subscriptions;
- self-purchase or coordinated purchase manipulation;
- stolen payment methods;
- payment processor review;
- tax/KYC issue;
- incomplete onboarding;
- identity verification problem;
- sanctions or compliance concern;
- negative ledger balance;
- excessive refund rate;
- excessive dispute rate;
- content ownership dispute;
- copyright complaint;
- plagiarism complaint;
- moderation investigation;
- mature-content monetization issue;
- paid content removal issue;
- account security concern;
- violation of these Author Monetization Terms;
- violation of any Dragon's Quill policy;
- legal request or court order.
- Dragon's Quill may hold payouts while investigating.
Dragon's Quill may release, reverse, offset, reserve, refund, or otherwise adjust held amounts depending on the outcome.
Dragon's Quill is not required to pay held amounts until Dragon's Quill determines that payout eligibility is satisfied.
21. Refunds
Reader purchases and subscriptions are governed by the Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms and Refund Policy.
Authors acknowledge that Dragon's Quill may issue full or partial refunds in appropriate cases, including where Dragon's Quill determines that:
- a reader was charged twice;
- a platform error prevented access;
- the wrong content was unlocked;
- a subscription or purchase malfunctioned;
- fraud or unauthorized payment occurred;
- paid content was removed or unavailable shortly after purchase;
- content violated Dragon's Quill policy;
- content was misleadingly described;
- the author violated monetization rules;
- a refund is required by law;
- a refund is appropriate for reader trust, support, or platform integrity.
- Refunds may reduce, reverse, or eliminate author earnings from the refunded transaction.
If author earnings from a refunded transaction have not yet been paid out, Dragon's Quill may deduct the refunded amount from pending earnings.
If author earnings from a refunded transaction have already been paid out, Dragon's Quill may create a negative ledger balance, offset the amount against future earnings, request repayment, or take other action permitted by policy and law.
Dragon's Quill may decide refund requests in its discretion, subject to applicable law.
Authors do not have final approval over reader refunds.
22. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
Readers may dispute payments through banks, card networks, payment processors, or other financial institutions.
Authors acknowledge that chargebacks and payment disputes cannot be eliminated.
If a transaction is disputed, Dragon's Quill may:
- mark the transaction as disputed;
- pause related payouts;
- hold related funds;
- revoke or suspend access where appropriate;
- submit evidence to the payment processor;
- reverse author earnings;
- create a negative ledger balance;
- disable monetization;
- restrict suspicious accounts;
- take other steps to protect Dragon's Quill, readers, authors, and the platform.
If a dispute is lost, reversed, or charged back, the author's earnings may be reduced or reversed.
Dispute fees, chargeback fees, processor fees, and related losses may be deducted, reserved, offset, or reflected in the author ledger where permitted by policy and law.
If Dragon's Quill believes an author is causing excessive disputes, encouraging abusive payment behavior, misrepresenting content, or participating in fraud, Dragon's Quill may restrict or terminate monetization.
23. Negative Balances
An author's ledger may become negative if refunds, chargebacks, dispute fees, reversals, corrections, taxes, fees, or other adjustments exceed unpaid eligible earnings.
If your ledger balance becomes negative, Dragon's Quill may:
- offset the negative amount against future earnings;
- hold payouts until the balance is resolved;
- require repayment;
- restrict monetization;
- disable monetization;
- suspend payouts;
- reduce future payouts;
- take other action permitted by these Terms and applicable law.
Dragon's Quill may choose not to pursue small negative balances, but doing so does not waive Dragon's Quill's right to pursue or offset other negative balances later.
24. Content Removal and Paid Content Consequences
Paid content creates reader expectations and payment-related obligations.
Authors may not freely hard-delete, remove, unpublish, restrict, or materially alter paid content in a way that undermines reader access, refund rights, subscription expectations, payment records, or Dragon's Quill policy.
If paid content is removed, unpublished, restricted, deleted, hidden, materially altered, or made unavailable, Dragon's Quill may:
- prevent deletion or unpublishing;
- require admin review;
- preserve the original or prior version for support, legal, financial, moderation, or access purposes;
- notify affected readers;
- cancel or pause subscriptions;
- issue refunds;
- reverse author earnings;
- create a negative ledger balance;
- hold payouts;
- disable story monetization;
- disable author monetization;
- preserve purchase records;
- take moderation action.
If Dragon's Quill removes content for policy, legal, copyright, payment-processor, safety, or moderation reasons, access to that content may end even if readers previously purchased or subscribed to it.
Refunds may be considered under the Refund Policy, but content removal is not automatically refundable in every case.
Dragon's Quill's obligation to preserve legal, tax, payout, refund, chargeback, purchase, moderation, and support records may survive author deletion, account deletion, or content removal.
25. Paid Chapter Editing and Material Changes
Authors may edit published chapters, including paid chapters, subject to Dragon's Quill's tools and policies.
However, authors may not use edits to mislead readers, remove the substance of paid content, replace paid content with unrelated material, hide prohibited content, evade moderation, or avoid refund obligations.
If Dragon's Quill believes an author has materially changed paid content in a way that harms readers, misrepresents what was purchased, or creates policy risk, Dragon's Quill may:
- restore a prior version where technically available;
- restrict further edits;
- require disclosure;
- issue refunds;
- reverse earnings;
- hold payouts;
- disable monetization;
- take moderation action.
Minor edits, typo fixes, formatting improvements, continuity edits, and quality improvements are generally allowed, provided they do not mislead readers or remove the paid value of the chapter.
26. Free Release Dates and Release Expectations
Dragon's Quill's Early Access model depends on reader trust.
Dragon's Quill may require each Early Access chapter to have a Free Release Date or other approved free-release setting.
Authors must not mislead readers about when paid chapters will become free.
Authors must not repeatedly change free-release timing in a way that is deceptive, abusive, or unfair to readers.
Dragon's Quill may show readers:
- the number of Advance Chapters;
- how far ahead supporters are;
- chapter free-release dates;
- author release cadence;
- subscription health;
- stale or inactive monetization warnings;
- other disclosures related to Early Access value.
Dragon's Quill may require authors to maintain clear release expectations for monetized stories.
27. Story Subscription Health and Author Inactivity
Story Subscriptions are valuable only if the author maintains meaningful Advance Content or a clear release schedule.
Dragon's Quill may monitor subscription health factors, including:
- number of current Advance Chapters;
- date of most recent Advance Chapter;
- date of most recent free chapter;
- current paid buffer;
- next scheduled paid chapter;
- next scheduled free chapter;
- author activity;
- reader complaints;
- subscription cancellation rates;
- refund or dispute patterns.
If Dragon's Quill determines that a monetized story has stale, inactive, misleading, or insufficient Advance Content, Dragon's Quill may:
- warn the author;
- display subscription-health warnings to readers;
- pause new subscriptions;
- prevent renewals;
- cancel subscriptions at period end;
- disable subscription monetization;
- disable all monetization for the story;
- issue refunds where appropriate;
- take other action under Dragon's Quill policies.
Dragon's Quill does not guarantee that an inactive story will continue to accept new subscriptions or renew existing subscriptions.
Authors should not enable Story Subscriptions unless they intend to maintain meaningful Early Access value.
28. Mature Content and Monetization Restrictions
Dragon's Quill may allow some mature themes on the platform while restricting or prohibiting monetization of certain mature content.
Authors are responsible for using accurate tags, content warnings, ratings, descriptions, and disclosures.
Content may be ineligible for monetization even if it is allowed to remain on Dragon's Quill.
Unless Dragon's Quill expressly allows otherwise in a later written policy, the following content is not eligible for monetization:
- explicit erotic or pornographic content;
- sexual content written primarily for sexual gratification;
- fetish content;
- explicit sexual imagery;
- sexual content involving minors;
- sexual exploitation;
- non-consensual sexual content;
- coercive sexual content;
- incest sexual content;
- adult services;
- content that violates payment processor rules;
- content that creates legal, safety, payment, or platform risk.
Dragon's Quill may also restrict or deny monetization for content involving extreme violence, hate, abuse, exploitation, illegal activity, self-harm, graphic sexual violence, or other sensitive material, even if the content is not fully prohibited from the platform.
Dragon's Quill may disable monetization for a chapter, story, author, or account based on the Mature Content and Monetization Eligibility Policy.
Authors may appeal certain monetization restrictions if Dragon's Quill provides an appeal process.
29. Author Responsibility for Content
Authors are solely responsible for their Author Content.
By enabling monetization or publishing Paid Content, you represent and warrant that:
- you own or control all rights needed to publish and monetize the content;
- your content does not infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, moral, or other rights;
- your content does not violate Dragon's Quill policies;
- your content does not violate applicable law;
- your content is accurately described, tagged, and disclosed;
- your paid chapters meet monetization eligibility rules;
- you will not mislead readers about paid access, free release, subscription value, chapter length, or content availability;
- you will not engage in fraud, manipulation, or artificial engagement;
- you will comply with refund, chargeback, payout, deletion, and moderation rules.
Dragon's Quill does not assume responsibility for your content merely because Dragon's Quill hosts, displays, indexes, monetizes, restricts, reviews, moderates, or processes it.
30. Intellectual Property and Rights Disputes
Authors may not monetize content they do not have the right to monetize.
If Dragon's Quill receives a copyright complaint, plagiarism report, trademark complaint, rights dispute, collaboration dispute, or other ownership-related concern, Dragon's Quill may:
- remove or restrict the content;
- disable monetization;
- hold payouts;
- preserve records;
- request information from the author;
- require proof of rights;
- reverse earnings;
- issue refunds;
- terminate monetization;
- take other action under these Terms.
Dragon's Quill is not a court and does not decide final ownership of private disputes between authors, collaborators, editors, ghostwriters, publishers, artists, rights holders, or other parties.
However, Dragon's Quill may act to protect the platform, readers, payment systems, and legal compliance.
Authors are responsible for resolving private rights disputes outside of Dragon's Quill.
31. Covers, Images, and Third-Party Materials
Authors are responsible for all covers, images, illustrations, symbols, maps, typography, logos, lyrics, quotes, references, and third-party materials used in their stories or profiles.
You may not monetize content that includes third-party materials unless you have the right to use and monetize those materials.
Dragon's Quill may remove, restrict, or demonetize content containing third-party materials if Dragon's Quill believes those materials create legal, copyright, trademark, publicity, payment, reader-trust, or platform risk.
32. AI-Assisted Content
Dragon's Quill may adopt separate rules for AI-assisted, AI-generated, machine-generated, or heavily automated content.
Unless a later policy says otherwise, authors are responsible for all content they submit, including content created with AI writing tools, editing tools, image generators, formatting tools, or automated systems.
Authors may not use AI tools to:
- plagiarize;
- impersonate another author;
- mislead readers;
- flood Dragon's Quill with low-quality content;
- evade moderation;
- violate third-party rights;
- create deceptive covers or story materials;
- generate prohibited mature content;
- manipulate word-count rules;
- create spam, scams, or artificial engagement.
Dragon's Quill may require disclosure, restrict monetization, limit visibility, or remove AI-assisted content where Dragon's Quill believes doing so is necessary for legal compliance, reader trust, platform quality, or payment-processor compliance.
33. No Self-Purchase or Monetization Manipulation
Authors may not purchase, subscribe to, unlock, or otherwise generate monetized transactions for their own content.
Authors may not coordinate with others to create artificial purchases, subscriptions, refunds, reviews, follows, likes, comments, ratings, or engagement.
Prohibited activity includes:
- buying your own chapters;
- subscribing to your own story;
- using alternate accounts to generate earnings;
- asking others to make fake purchases;
- reimbursing readers for artificial purchases;
- using stolen payment methods;
- coordinating false subscriptions;
- manipulating rankings or analytics;
- trading purchases with other authors;
- using refunds or chargebacks as part of an artificial scheme.
Dragon's Quill may reverse earnings, hold payouts, disable monetization, restrict accounts, ban users, preserve evidence, or refer matters to payment processors or law enforcement where appropriate.
34. Reader Communications and Promotional Claims
Authors may promote their monetized stories, but promotional claims must be honest and not misleading.
Authors must not misrepresent:
- what a reader receives;
- whether access is permanent or temporary;
- whether chapters will become free later;
- how many Advance Chapters exist;
- how often chapters will be released;
- whether future chapters are included in a purchase;
- whether a Story Subscription grants permanent ownership;
- Dragon's Quill's platform fee;
- processing fees or author payouts;
- refund rights;
- content warnings;
- chapter length;
- story status;
- monetization eligibility.
Authors must not pressure, threaten, harass, shame, or manipulate readers into purchasing, subscribing, avoiding cancellation, leaving reviews, or refraining from refund requests.
Dragon's Quill may require correction or removal of misleading promotional language.
35. No Guarantee of Income, Visibility, or Success
Dragon's Quill does not guarantee that any author will earn money.
Dragon's Quill does not guarantee:
- purchases;
- subscriptions;
- followers;
- reviews;
- comments;
- likes;
- visibility;
- discovery placement;
- rankings;
- recommendations;
- reader retention;
- payout eligibility;
- payout timing;
- continued monetization access;
- continued availability of any monetization product.
Author earnings depend on many factors outside Dragon's Quill's control, including reader interest, content quality, update cadence, genre, pricing, market conditions, payment failures, refunds, chargebacks, taxes, processing fees, and platform changes.
Any analytics, projections, estimates, dashboards, examples, revenue summaries, or expected earnings shown by Dragon's Quill are informational only and are not guarantees.
36. Dragon's Quill's Right to Pause, Restrict, or Disable Monetization
Dragon's Quill may pause, restrict, limit, demonetize, or disable monetization for any author, story, chapter, account, region, payment method, or monetization product at any time.
Reasons may include:
- violation of these Author Monetization Terms;

Dragon's Quill may act before completing an investigation if Dragon's Quill believes immediate action is needed to protect readers, authors, Dragon's Quill, payment systems, or the platform.
Dragon's Quill may preserve records and continue holding funds while reviewing monetization issues.
37. Launch Controls and Kill Switch
Dragon's Quill may disable, pause, or limit monetization features globally or selectively.
Dragon's Quill may use launch controls, test-mode limitations, regional restrictions, author-specific restrictions, story-specific restrictions, chapter-specific restrictions, product-specific restrictions, or a platform-wide monetization kill switch.
Dragon's Quill may do this for reasons including:
- payment processor issues;

Dragon's Quill is not liable for lost expected earnings caused by good-faith monetization pauses, restrictions, or launch controls.
38. Access Grants and Reader Rights
Dragon's Quill controls access grants for paid content.
Authors do not independently control reader purchase records, subscription records, access grants, refunds, chargebacks, or payout eligibility.
Dragon's Quill may grant, deny, revoke, pause, restore, or modify access according to:
- payment status;

- refunds;
- chargebacks;
- reader account status;
- author account status;
- story status;
- chapter status;
- moderation actions;

Authors may not interfere with access-control systems, attempt to bypass platform checkout, or manually recreate Dragon's Quill paid access outside the platform in a way that misleads readers or undermines Dragon's Quill's policies.
39. Off-Platform Payments
Authors may not use Dragon's Quill to evade Dragon's Quill's platform fee or paid access systems.
Unless Dragon's Quill expressly allows otherwise, authors may not:
- direct readers to pay off-platform for Dragon's Quill Early Access chapters;
- use Dragon's Quill story pages, chapter pages, comments, messages, or profiles to bypass Dragon's Quill checkout;
- sell Dragon's Quill paid access through external payment links;

- move readers off-platform in a misleading or fee-avoidant way.
Dragon's Quill may allow authors to link to general author websites, newsletters, social media, print books, crowdfunding, or other lawful author spaces under separate platform rules, but those links must not be used to evade Dragon's Quill's monetization system for content offered as Dragon's Quill Early Access.
Dragon's Quill may remove links, restrict accounts, or disable monetization if off-platform payment activity creates policy, fraud, payment, or reader-trust risk.
40. Refund and Support Cooperation

Dragon's Quill may retain monetization-related records as needed for:
- tax compliance;
- accounting;
- payment processing;
- payout records;

- legal compliance;
- support;

- policy enforcement.
These records may be retained even if an author deletes content, disables monetization, closes an account, requests account deletion, or removes stories from public view.
Dragon's Quill may anonymize or delete certain account data where appropriate, but financial, legal, tax, payment, purchase, payout, moderation, and compliance records may be retained as required or permitted by law and policy.
42. Account Deletion and Monetization

- settle eligible unpaid earnings according to policy;

Account deletion does not erase prior payment obligations, refund obligations, chargeback liability, negative balances, indemnity obligations, tax obligations, or record-retention requirements.

Termination of monetization does not erase prior obligations.
46. Indemnification
In addition to any indemnification obligations in the Terms of Service, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Dragon's Quill and its owners, officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, service providers, payment processors, licensors, successors, and assigns from and against any claims, demands, damages, losses, liabilities, judgments, settlements, costs, expenses, and fees, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to:
