This Cookie and Similar Technologies Policy explains how Dragon's Quill uses cookies, local storage, session storage, analytics tools, and similar browser technologies.
This policy should be read together with Dragon's Quill's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
By using Dragon's Quill, you acknowledge that we may use cookies and similar technologies as described in this policy.
1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by a website or browser.
Dragon's Quill may also use similar technologies, including:
- local storage;
- session storage;
- browser storage;
- authentication/session storage;
- device or browser identifiers;
- analytics events;
- payment or checkout-related browser technologies;
- security and fraud-prevention technologies.
These technologies help Dragon's Quill operate the platform, remember preferences, support account sessions, improve performance, process payments, and understand basic site usage.
2. Browser Storage Is Not Always the Same as Cookies
Dragon's Quill uses browser storage such as local storage and session storage.
These technologies are not the same thing as traditional cookies, but they serve similar purposes and are commonly disclosed together.
Dragon's Quill may use browser storage to remember or support:
- reading preferences;
- theme or display preferences;
- reader settings;
- legal-acceptance state;
- visitor keys or temporary identifiers;
- navigation progress;
- event deduplication;
- story analytics events;
- author draft/autosave behavior;
- session or authentication-related state where applicable.
Clearing your browser storage may reset certain preferences, drafts, saved local states, or temporary browser-side information.
3. How Dragon's Quill Uses Cookies and Similar Technologies
Dragon's Quill may use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes.
3.1 Strictly Necessary Technologies
These technologies are needed for Dragon's Quill to function properly.
They may be used for:
- account login and authentication;
- session management;
- security;
- fraud prevention;
- checkout and payment continuity;
- legal-acceptance flows;
- reader preferences;
- author draft/autosave behavior;
- preventing duplicate navigation or analytics events;
- remembering essential settings;
- maintaining platform reliability.
Because these technologies are necessary for the platform to work, Dragon's Quill may use them without offering a separate opt-in choice where allowed by law.
3.2 Functional Technologies
These technologies help Dragon's Quill remember choices and improve your experience.
They may be used for:
- reading preferences;
- display settings;
- theme preferences;
- accessibility settings;
- saved local states;
- smoother navigation;
- draft recovery;
- user interface continuity.
If you disable or clear these technologies, parts of Dragon's Quill may still work, but your experience may be less convenient.
3.3 Analytics Technologies
Dragon's Quill may use analytics tools to understand how the platform is used and to improve the Services.
Analytics may help us understand:
- page views;
- traffic patterns;
- story or chapter engagement;
- performance issues;
- navigation behavior;
- feature usage;
- errors or reliability issues.
Dragon's Quill currently uses Vercel Web Analytics or similar infrastructure analytics. Vercel states that its Web Analytics stores anonymized data and does not use cookies.
If Dragon's Quill later adds analytics tools that use cookies or similar identifiers, this policy may be updated.
3.4 Payment and Checkout Technologies
Dragon's Quill uses Stripe or another payment processor for payments, subscriptions, refunds, disputes, and author payout onboarding.
Stripe and other payment providers may use cookies or similar technologies for:
- checkout;
- payment authentication;
- fraud prevention;
- payment security;
- subscription billing;
- identity or payout onboarding;
- dispute and refund processing;
- compliance.
Stripe's use of cookies and similar technologies is governed by Stripe's own policies.
3.5 Third-Party Authentication Technologies
If you sign in using Google or another third-party identity provider, that provider may use cookies or similar technologies for authentication, account security, fraud prevention, or related purposes.
Google's use of cookies and similar technologies is governed by Google's own privacy and cookie policies.
4. Technologies Dragon's Quill Does Not Currently Intend to Use
Based on the current MVP setup, Dragon's Quill does not currently intend to use:
- advertising cookies;
- retargeting pixels;
- cross-site behavioral advertising cookies;
- third-party ad network cookies;
- sale of cookie-based profiles;
- site currency or wallet cookies;
- marketing pixels such as Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or similar ad-tracking tools.
If Dragon's Quill later adds advertising, retargeting, marketing pixels, advanced third-party analytics, A/B personalization tools, or other non-essential tracking technologies, this policy may be updated and additional consent or preference controls may be added where required.
5. Your Choices
You can control cookies and browser storage through your browser settings.
Depending on your browser, you may be able to:
- block cookies;
- delete cookies;
- clear local storage;
- clear session storage;
- block third-party cookies;
- use private browsing;
- limit site permissions.
If you block or clear cookies or browser storage, some Dragon's Quill features may not work correctly.
For example, you may lose:
- login sessions;
- reading preferences;
- theme settings;
- draft/autosave recovery;
- legal-acceptance state;
- checkout continuity;
- navigation state;
- other saved local settings.
Some third-party services, such as Stripe or Google, may provide their own cookie or privacy controls.
6. Cookie Consent
Dragon's Quill currently uses cookies and similar technologies primarily for necessary, functional, authentication, payment, security, and basic analytics purposes.
Dragon's Quill does not currently use advertising or retargeting cookies as part of the MVP.
Because of that, Dragon's Quill may not display a full "accept all cookies" banner unless required by law or unless Dragon's Quill adds non-essential tracking technologies later.
If Dragon's Quill later uses non-essential analytics, advertising, retargeting, or marketing cookies, Dragon's Quill may add additional cookie controls, consent notices, or preference settings.
7. Third-Party Services
Dragon's Quill may rely on third-party services that use cookies or similar technologies.
These may include:
- Supabase for authentication, database, storage, and backend services;
- Stripe for payments, subscriptions, refunds, disputes, and author payout onboarding;
- Google if Google sign-in is used;
- Vercel or other hosting/infrastructure providers;
- analytics, support, email, security, or performance providers added later.
These third parties may process information under their own privacy, cookie, and security policies.
Dragon's Quill does not control every cookie or similar technology used by third-party services.
8. Changes to This Policy
Dragon's Quill may update this Cookie and Similar Technologies Policy from time to time.
Dragon's Quill may update this policy if we add or change:
- authentication tools;
- analytics tools;
- payment processors;
- hosting or infrastructure providers;
- advertising tools;
- retargeting pixels;
- marketing tools;
- customer support tools;
