These Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms explain how paid reading access works on Dragon's Quill.
They apply when you purchase, unlock, subscribe to, access, cancel, renew, or otherwise use paid features on Dragon's Quill, including Early Access chapters, One-Time Unlocks, Next-5 Bundles, Binge Packages, Story Subscriptions, and any related reader purchase features.
These Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms are part of the Dragon's Quill Terms of Service. By making a purchase, subscribing to a story, accessing paid content, or using paid reader features, you agree to these Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms.
If you do not agree, do not purchase or subscribe on Dragon's Quill.
1. Relationship to Other Dragon's Quill Terms
These Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms supplement and are incorporated into the Dragon's Quill Terms of Service.
You must also comply with:
- the Terms of Service;
- the Privacy Policy;
- the Refund Policy;
- the Mature Content and Monetization Eligibility Policy, where relevant;
- the Paid Chapter Deletion / Unpublishing Policy, where relevant;
- checkout notices and product-specific disclosures shown at purchase;
- any other Dragon's Quill policy that applies to paid content.
If these Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms conflict with the general Terms of Service on a reader payment or subscription issue, these Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms control for that issue.
If the Refund Policy or another more specific payment policy conflicts with these Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms on a narrow issue, the more specific policy controls for that issue unless it says otherwise.
2. What Dragon's Quill Paid Access Is
Dragon's Quill allows authors to offer paid access to certain chapters before those chapters become free or broadly available.
Dragon's Quill's main paid reading model is Early Access.
Early Access means readers can pay to read Advance Chapters before free readers.
Dragon's Quill may offer paid access through:
- Individual Chapter Unlocks;
- Next-5 Bundles;
- Binge Packages;
- Story Subscriptions;
- other paid reader features Dragon's Quill may add later.
Dragon's Quill does not use coins, credits, tokens, wallet balances, or site-wide stored currency unless a later written policy says otherwise.
You pay real currency through supported payment methods.
3. Key Reader Summary
This section is only a summary. The full terms below still apply.
When you purchase or subscribe on Dragon's Quill:
Early Access means "read first," not "exclusive forever."
Advance Chapters may later become free.
A chapter becoming free later is not, by itself, a refund reason.
A One-Time Unlock gives continuing account-based access to the specific chapter or chapters included in that purchase, subject to these Terms and applicable policies.
A Story Subscription gives temporary access to eligible Advance Chapters for one story while your subscription is active.
Subscriptions do not give permanent ownership of chapters.
A Binge Package includes only the eligible locked Advance Chapters available and included at the time of purchase.
Future Advance Chapters are not included in past Binge Packages unless the checkout page expressly says otherwise.
Digital purchases are generally final once access is granted, but limited refunds may be available under the Refund Policy.
Dragon's Quill may remove or restrict content for legal, safety, payment, copyright, moderation, or policy reasons.
Paid access is tied to your Dragon's Quill account and may not be transferred, resold, shared, or used to bypass platform rules.
4. Definitions
For purposes of these Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms:
- "Reader," "you," and "your" mean a user who purchases, subscribes to, accesses, or uses paid reading features.
- "Author" means a user who publishes stories or chapters on Dragon's Quill.
- "Early Access" means paid advance access to chapters before those chapters become free or broadly available.
- "Advance Chapter" means a chapter made available through Early Access.
- "Paid Content" means content made available through paid reader features, including Early Access chapters, unlocked chapters, bundle chapters, Binge Package chapters, or subscription-access chapters.
- "One-Time Unlock" means a one-time purchase that grants continuing account-based access to specific purchased chapters, subject to these terms and applicable policies.
- "Individual Chapter Unlock" means a One-Time Unlock for one specific chapter.
- "Next-5 Bundle" means a One-Time Unlock that grants continuing account-based access to the eligible locked Advance Chapters included in that bundle at the time of purchase.
- "Binge Package" means a One-Time Unlock that grants continuing account-based access to the eligible locked Advance Chapters included in that package at the time of purchase.
- "Story Subscription" means a recurring subscription for one story that gives temporary access to eligible Advance Chapters for that story while the subscription is active.
- "Free Release Date" means the date or time when an Early Access chapter is scheduled to become free or broadly available.

- "Payment Processor" means Stripe or another third-party payment processor used by Dragon's Quill.
5. Account Requirement
You must have a Dragon's Quill account to purchase paid access or subscribe to a story.
Signed-out visitors may see that paid Early Access content exists, but they cannot complete a purchase or subscription until signing in.
Dragon's Quill may return you to the story, chapter, or checkout flow after sign-in where technically supported.
Paid access is tied to your Dragon's Quill account.
You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure.
You may not share, sell, transfer, rent, or allow others to use your account to access paid content.
Dragon's Quill is not responsible if you lose access to paid content because you lose access to your account, use the wrong account, create multiple accounts, or fail to maintain account security, except where required by law.
6. Early Access Means Read First, Not Exclusive Forever
Early Access is Dragon's Quill's main paid-content model.
When you purchase or subscribe to Early Access content, you are paying to read Advance Chapters before they become free or broadly available.
You are not paying for a guarantee that the chapter will remain permanently paid, permanently exclusive, permanently unavailable to free readers, or permanently locked.
A chapter may later become free according to its Free Release Date, author settings, Dragon's Quill policy, or platform decision.
A chapter becoming free later is not, by itself, a refund event.
Dragon's Quill may display Free Release Dates, advance-chapter counts, subscription value disclosures, or other Early Access information to help readers understand what they are buying.
7. One-Time Unlocks
A One-Time Unlock is a one-time purchase that gives you continuing account-based access to the specific chapter or chapters included in the purchase.
One-Time Unlocks may include:
- Individual Chapter Unlocks;
- Next-5 Bundles;
- Binge Packages;
- other one-time paid unlocks Dragon's Quill may add later.
A One-Time Unlock does not give you ownership of the story, chapter, copyright, files, source text, download rights, redistribution rights, resale rights, or any right to copy or share paid content outside Dragon's Quill.
A One-Time Unlock gives you the ability to read the included content through your Dragon's Quill account, subject to these terms, the Terms of Service, applicable policies, technical availability, moderation action, legal requirements, refunds, chargebacks, and content availability.
8. Individual Chapter Unlocks
An Individual Chapter Unlock gives you continuing account-based access to one specific Advance Chapter.
The checkout page should identify the chapter being unlocked.
Once access is granted, that chapter should appear as unlocked for your account, unless access is later restricted under these terms or another Dragon's Quill policy.
An Individual Chapter Unlock does not include:
- future chapters;
- previous chapters not identified in the purchase;
- other stories by the same author;
- subscription access;
- downloadable files;
- off-platform access;
- permanent exclusivity;
- ownership of the author's content.
If the purchased chapter later becomes free, your purchase record remains, but the chapter becoming free later is not, by itself, a refund reason.
9. Next-5 Bundles
A Next-5 Bundle is a one-time purchase that unlocks the eligible locked Advance Chapters included in that bundle at the time of purchase.
For MVP, "Next-5" generally means the earliest eligible locked and unowned Advance Chapters in story reading order, unless the checkout page clearly says otherwise.
A Next-5 Bundle gives continuing account-based access to the specific chapters included in that bundle.
A Next-5 Bundle does not include:
- future chapters released after the purchase;
- chapters not listed or included in the bundle;
- subscription access;
- downloadable files;
- ownership of the author's content;
- permanent exclusivity.
If you already own some Advance Chapters, Dragon's Quill may exclude already-owned chapters from the bundle where technically supported.
The checkout page or receipt may identify the included chapters by title, number, range, count, or other reasonable description.
10. Binge Packages
A Binge Package is a one-time purchase that unlocks all eligible locked and unowned Advance Chapters for a story that are included in the package at the time of purchase.
A Binge Package gives continuing account-based access to the specific chapters included in that purchase.
A Binge Package does not include future Advance Chapters unless the checkout page expressly says so.
If the author later publishes more Advance Chapters, those future chapters are not automatically included in your prior Binge Package.
You may need to purchase another unlock, purchase another Binge Package, purchase a bundle, or subscribe to access future Advance Chapters.
The checkout page should explain that a Binge Package unlocks currently available eligible Advance Chapters, not all future paid chapters forever.
11. Story Subscriptions
A Story Subscription is a recurring subscription for one story.
While your Story Subscription is active, it gives you temporary account-based access to eligible Advance Chapters for that story.
A Story Subscription may allow you to read:
- current eligible Advance Chapters for that story;
- future eligible Advance Chapters released during your active subscription;
- other subscription-access content Dragon's Quill may include in the future.
- A Story Subscription does not give you permanent ownership of any chapter.
A Story Subscription does not grant continuing access after the subscription ends, except for:
- chapters you purchased separately through a One-Time Unlock;
- chapters that have become free;
- content Dragon's Quill otherwise allows you to access.
If your Story Subscription ends, expires, is canceled, fails payment, is refunded, is charged back, or is otherwise terminated, subscription-only access may end.
12. Subscription Renewal
Story Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled before renewal, unless the checkout page or applicable law says otherwise.
By starting a Story Subscription, you authorize Dragon's Quill and its Payment Processor to charge your selected payment method on a recurring basis for the subscription price, applicable taxes, and other applicable charges until the subscription is canceled or otherwise ends.
Subscription billing periods, renewal dates, prices, taxes, payment methods, and cancellation options may be shown during checkout, in your account, in your purchase/subscription history, in the Payment Processor's checkout or billing portal, or in related notices.
Dragon's Quill may rely on Stripe or another Payment Processor to manage renewal charges, payment method updates, billing authentication, failed payments, receipts, invoices, and cancellation flows.
13. Subscription Cancellation
You may cancel a Story Subscription using the cancellation tools Dragon's Quill provides, the account purchase/subscription area, the Payment Processor's billing portal, or another method Dragon's Quill identifies.
Unless the checkout page, applicable law, or Dragon's Quill policy says otherwise:
- cancellation stops future renewals;
- cancellation does not automatically refund the current Subscription Period;
- access usually continues until the end of the current paid Subscription Period;
- subscription-only access ends after the current paid Subscription Period ends.
Deleting your Dragon's Quill account may not automatically cancel every active subscription unless Dragon's Quill expressly says it does. You are responsible for canceling active subscriptions before account deletion where cancellation tools are available.
Dragon's Quill may cancel a Story Subscription if required by author inactivity, content removal, story removal, author monetization restrictions, payment issues, legal concerns, refund decisions, chargebacks, policy violations, or platform decisions.
14. Failed Subscription Payments and Grace Period
A subscription payment may fail because of an expired card, insufficient funds, bank decline, authentication requirement, fraud block, replaced payment method, processor issue, or another payment problem.
If a renewal payment fails, Dragon's Quill may provide a short grace period before subscription access ends.
Unless Dragon's Quill later changes this rule, the MVP grace period is 3 days.
During the grace period:
- your subscription may be marked past due, unpaid, or in grace;
- Dragon's Quill or its Payment Processor may retry the payment;
- you may be asked to update your payment method;
- you may temporarily keep subscription access.
After the grace period, if payment is not successfully completed:
- subscription-only access may end;
- your subscription may be canceled, expired, unpaid, or otherwise restricted;
- free chapters remain accessible;
- separately purchased chapters remain accessible unless restricted under another policy;
- you may be able to resubscribe later.
Dragon's Quill is not required to provide a grace period in every case, especially where fraud, abuse, chargebacks, payment processor restrictions, account restrictions, or legal issues are involved.
15. Subscription Access After Cancellation or Expiration
If you cancel a Story Subscription, you usually keep subscription access until the end of the current paid Subscription Period.
After the Subscription Period ends:
- subscription-only Advance Chapters may lock again;
- reading progress may remain in your Hoard or reading history;
- attempting to open a locked chapter may show a paywall or access message;
- you may return to free chapters or separately purchased chapters;
- you may resubscribe if the subscription remains available and your account is eligible.
If a chapter became free while your subscription was active, that chapter remains readable because it is now free.
If you purchased a chapter separately through a One-Time Unlock, that chapter remains readable according to the One-Time Unlock rules.
16. Purchase Access and Subscription Access Are Different
One-Time Unlocks and Story Subscriptions work differently.
A One-Time Unlock gives continuing access to the specific chapter or chapters included in the purchase.
A Story Subscription gives temporary access to eligible Advance Chapters while the subscription is active.
If you buy a chapter and later subscribe, you keep your purchased chapter access.
If you subscribe and later cancel, you do not keep subscription-only chapters unless they became free or you purchased them separately.
During the MVP, Dragon's Quill may choose not to offer permanent One-Time Unlock purchases to active subscribers for chapters they can already access through a subscription.
If Dragon's Quill later supports "keep permanently" purchases during active subscriptions, additional terms or checkout disclosures may apply.
17. Free Release Dates
Advance Chapters may have Free Release Dates.
A Free Release Date is the date or time when an Early Access chapter becomes free or broadly available.
Dragon's Quill may show Free Release Dates on story pages, chapter pages, paywalls, checkout screens, receipts, or account pages.
Free Release Dates may be affected by author settings, scheduling tools, technical issues, moderation action, story status, account status, policy decisions, or platform changes.
Dragon's Quill may treat a chapter as free once its Free Release Date has passed, even if platform cleanup or display updates are delayed.
A chapter becoming free on schedule is not, by itself, a refund reason.
18. What Is Not Included in a Purchase or Subscription
Unless Dragon's Quill expressly says otherwise, purchases and subscriptions do not include:
- ownership of any story, chapter, character, world, setting, or author content;
- copyright rights;
- download rights;
- printing rights;
- redistribution rights;
- resale rights;
- sublicensing rights;
- translation rights;
- audiobook rights;
- ebook export rights;
- offline access;
- access outside Dragon's Quill;
- access to future chapters not included in the purchase;
- access to other stories by the same author;
- access to all Dragon's Quill paid content;
- permanent access to subscription-only chapters after subscription expiration;
- a guarantee that the author will continue publishing;
- a guarantee that a story will remain monetized;
- a guarantee that content will remain available forever;
- a guarantee that you will enjoy the content.
19. Prices, Taxes, and Fees
Prices are shown at checkout or before purchase.
Prices may vary by product, story, author selection, country, currency, taxes, payment method, promotions, platform settings, or Payment Processor rules.
Prices may not include all applicable taxes unless stated.
Dragon's Quill or its Payment Processor may calculate, collect, or remit applicable taxes.
Taxes collected from readers are not author earnings and are not Dragon's Quill platform-fee revenue.
Currency conversion, bank fees, payment-method fees, card-issuer fees, or other third-party fees may apply depending on your payment method or location.
Dragon's Quill is not responsible for fees charged by your bank, card issuer, payment provider, or currency provider except where required by law.
20. Payment Processors
Dragon's Quill uses Stripe or another third-party Payment Processor to process purchases, subscriptions, billing, receipts, payment methods, refunds, disputes, and related payment activity.
By purchasing or subscribing, you may also be subject to the Payment Processor's terms, privacy policy, payment rules, authentication requirements, fraud checks, billing portal, card-network rules, and dispute processes.
Dragon's Quill is not responsible for Payment Processor outages, payment declines, authentication failures, unsupported payment methods, account restrictions, processing delays, failed renewals, or billing errors caused by third-party systems except where required by law.
Dragon's Quill may deny, delay, cancel, or reverse a purchase or subscription if payment is not successfully completed, verified, or settled.
Access may be granted only after Dragon's Quill receives reliable confirmation of payment.
Client-side redirects, checkout success pages, email receipts, or browser messages may not be enough by themselves to create access if Dragon's Quill cannot verify payment.
21. Receipts and Purchase History
Dragon's Quill may provide purchase and subscription history in your account.
Receipts or account records may show:
- story title;
- author name;
- purchase type;
- included chapters;
- amount paid;
- currency;
- taxes, where available;
- purchase date;
- access type;
- subscription status;
- renewal date;
- cancellation status;
- refund status;
- dispute status;
- Payment Processor identifiers or links, where appropriate.
Dragon's Quill may preserve purchase and subscription records for accounting, tax, legal, access-control, support, refund, dispute, fraud-prevention, and compliance purposes.
Purchase history may remain even if content later becomes free, is removed, is refunded, or is otherwise restricted.
22. Refunds Are Limited
Digital content purchases are generally final once access is granted.
Limited refunds may be available under the Refund Policy.
Examples of situations where Dragon's Quill may consider a refund include:
- duplicate charge;
- platform error prevented access;
- wrong chapter or bundle unlocked because of a system error;
- unauthorized or fraudulent payment;
- paid content removed or unavailable shortly after purchase;
- subscription or checkout malfunction;
- refund required by law;
- other case-by-case support situations Dragon's Quill approves.
Examples of situations that usually do not qualify for refunds include:
- you disliked the chapter;
- you changed your mind after access was granted;
- you forgot to read;
- you did not use your subscription;
- you forgot to cancel before renewal;
- a chapter later became free on schedule;
- an author continued the story in a direction you disliked;
- a story updated more slowly than you hoped, unless Dragon's Quill policy says otherwise;
- you purchased from the wrong account because you were signed into the wrong account.
- Refund decisions are governed by the Refund Policy and applicable law.
- Refunds may affect access.
If a purchase is fully refunded, Dragon's Quill may revoke purchase-based access unless the content is now free or Dragon's Quill decides otherwise.
If a subscription payment is refunded, Dragon's Quill may end subscription access for the refunded period.
23. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
If you dispute a payment through your bank, card issuer, payment provider, or Payment Processor, Dragon's Quill may:
- mark the purchase or subscription as disputed;
- pause or revoke access;
- cancel or restrict the subscription;
- restrict your account;
- prevent future purchases;
- preserve records;
- submit evidence to the Payment Processor;
- take other action needed to protect the platform, authors, readers, and payment systems.
A chargeback or dispute does not guarantee that you will keep access to the disputed content.
Abuse of chargebacks, disputes, refunds, or payment systems may result in account restrictions or termination.
24. Content Removal, Unpublishing, and Moderation
Dragon's Quill may remove, restrict, hide, disable, demonetize, or limit access to content for reasons including:
- violation of the Terms of Service;
- violation of content policies;
- mature-content monetization restrictions;
- copyright or rights complaints;
- plagiarism concerns;
- legal requirements;
- payment processor requirements;
- author account restrictions;
- author monetization restrictions;
- story deletion or unpublishing;
- safety concerns;
- fraud;
- technical issues;
- platform integrity;
- support or moderation decisions.
If paid content is removed or restricted, Dragon's Quill may consider refunds under the Refund Policy.
However, paid content removal is not automatically refundable in every case.
Dragon's Quill may preserve purchase records, access records, author ledger records, refund records, dispute records, moderation records, and evidence even if content is removed from public view.
25. Author Inactivity and Subscription Value
Dragon's Quill may monitor whether a story with active subscriptions continues to offer meaningful Advance Content or a clear release schedule.
Dragon's Quill may display warnings or take action if a subscription story becomes stale, inactive, misleading, or lacks Advance Content.
Dragon's Quill may:
- warn the author;
- warn readers;
- pause new subscriptions;
- prevent renewals;
- cancel subscriptions at period end;
- disable subscription monetization;
- issue refunds where appropriate;
- take other action under Dragon's Quill policies.
Dragon's Quill does not guarantee that any author will continue publishing, maintain a particular release pace, keep a particular number of Advance Chapters available, or complete a story.
26. Reader Conduct Around Paid Content
You may not misuse Dragon's Quill paid access systems.
You may not:
- share paid chapters with others;
- copy, distribute, post, upload, sell, publish, leak, scrape, or redistribute paid content;
- bypass paywalls or access controls;
- use another person's account to access paid content;
- share your account to let others access paid content;
- use bots, scripts, scraping tools, or unauthorized tools to access paid content;
- exploit bugs to unlock paid content without paying;
- make fraudulent purchases;
- use stolen payment methods;
- abuse refunds or chargebacks;
- harass authors over pricing, paid access, release schedules, or refunds;
- threaten authors to demand free access;
- manipulate purchases, subscriptions, reviews, or engagement.
Dragon's Quill may restrict accounts, revoke access, cancel subscriptions, preserve evidence, or take enforcement action for misuse of paid content or payment systems.
27. Account Restrictions and Paid Access
If your account is restricted, suspended, or terminated, your ability to access paid content may be affected.
Dragon's Quill may restrict paid access on a case-by-case basis depending on the reason for the account action.
For example, Dragon's Quill may restrict access if the account restriction involves:
- fraud;
- stolen payment methods;
- chargeback abuse;
- unauthorized access;
- harassment;
- safety threats;
- legal issues;
- payment processor requirements;
- attempts to bypass paywalls;
- serious violations of the Terms of Service.
Dragon's Quill will not automatically erase purchase records merely because an account is restricted.
Purchase, subscription, refund, dispute, and access records may be retained for legal, tax, accounting, support, fraud-prevention, and compliance purposes.
28. Region, Currency, and Availability
Paid features may not be available in every country, region, currency, payment method, account type, or device.
Dragon's Quill may restrict purchases, subscriptions, refunds, taxes, payment methods, or access based on:
- legal requirements;
- tax readiness;
- Payment Processor availability;
- sanctions rules;
- fraud risk;
- author availability;
- story status;
- content restrictions;
- platform decisions;
- business or technical limitations.
Dragon's Quill does not guarantee that any paid feature will be available in your region.
29. Changes to Paid Features
Dragon's Quill may change paid features over time.
Dragon's Quill may add, remove, pause, test, or modify:
- Early Access;
- One-Time Unlocks;
- Individual Chapter Unlocks;
- Next-5 Bundles;
- Binge Packages;
- Story Subscriptions;
- price tiers;
- discounts;
- checkout flows;
- cancellation flows;
- grace periods;
- refund procedures;
- subscription renewal behavior;
- supported payment methods;
- access rules;
- account purchase history;
- author monetization requirements;
- region or currency support.
Changes will not retroactively change the specific chapters included in a completed One-Time Unlock unless required by law, refund, chargeback, content removal, technical correction, or applicable policy.
Dragon's Quill may require you to accept updated terms before making future purchases or continuing paid features.
30. No Guarantee of Content Quality or Satisfaction
Dragon's Quill hosts author-created content.
Dragon's Quill does not guarantee that you will enjoy any story, chapter, author, writing style, update schedule, ending, plot decision, character arc, genre direction, or paid chapter.
Reader dissatisfaction with content is usually not a refund reason once access has been granted.
Dragon's Quill may provide reviews, comments, tags, blurbs, Reader Notes, warnings, chapter counts, word counts, release dates, and other information to help readers decide whether to purchase or subscribe, but Dragon's Quill does not guarantee that this information will be complete, accurate, current, or representative in every case.
31. No Guarantee of Continuous Access
Dragon's Quill aims to provide reliable access to properly purchased or subscribed content, but continuous access is not guaranteed.
Access may be affected by:
- downtime;
- maintenance;
- bugs;
- account issues;
- Payment Processor issues;
- failed payments;
- refunds;
- chargebacks;
- content removal;
- moderation;
- legal requirements;
- author account status;
- story status;
- security issues;
- platform changes;
- device or browser issues.
Dragon's Quill is not liable for temporary interruptions except where required by law.
If a platform error prevents access to paid content, you may contact Dragon's Quill support and Dragon's Quill may provide support, restore access, issue a refund, or take other action under the Refund Policy.

If Dragon's Quill makes material changes, Dragon's Quill may provide notice by posting the updated terms, changing the "Last Updated" date, emailing users, showing an in-product notice, requiring acceptance at checkout, or using another reasonable method.
Your continued use of paid features after updated terms take effect means you accept the updated terms.
Dragon's Quill may require you to accept updated terms before making future purchases, starting a subscription, renewing a subscription, or using paid features.
34. Reader Acknowledgment
By purchasing, subscribing, or accessing paid content on Dragon's Quill, you acknowledge and agree that:
- you have read and accepted these Reader Purchase and Subscription Terms;
- Early Access means read first, not exclusive forever;

- One-Time Unlocks provide continuing access to specific included chapters, subject to applicable policies;
- Story Subscriptions provide temporary access while active;
- subscriptions may renew automatically until canceled;
- canceling a subscription usually stops future renewals but does not automatically refund the current period;
- failed subscription payments may result in loss of subscription access after any grace period;
- future chapters are not included in past Binge Packages unless expressly stated;
- Dragon's Quill does not use coins, credits, wallet balances, or site currency in the MVP;
- refunds are limited and governed by the Refund Policy;
- paid content may be removed or restricted for legal, safety, payment, copyright, moderation, or policy reasons;
Dragon's Quill may restrict access if your account violates payment, safety, access-control, or platform rules.
If you do not agree, do not purchase or subscribe on Dragon's Quill.
